Nonhuman Neighbours

On the islands, many pockets of respite from development offer space for other species to exist peacefully. With pollinators, buffaloes, dogs, plants, corals, we explore how socialities with other species uplift our lives and pave the way for new ways of being.

Island Bee & Bee

Using natural resources such as bamboo, soil and wood in Mui Wo and Peng Chau, “Air Bee ‘n’ Bee” aims at providing habitats for our buzzing neighbours on the islands – solitary bees.

While the bees can enjoy their new abodes, we, in return, could closely observe their living style and get to know how they have an impact on us as well as on the eco-system.

You may easily spot an “Air Bee ‘n’ Bee” alongside the Silver River, across the farmlands and up on different trees in Mui Wo or next to the village houses on Peng Chau. These locations are delicately selected to reflect the characteristics of each island. Enjoy the company of the solitary bees on the trail of the “Air Bee ‘n’ Bee” while you acquaint yourself with their traits and features.

Try to live the life of these furry buzzers! Islanders might also participate by installing an “Air Bee ‘n’ Bee” outside your place.

Find more hints on how to share our territories with bees, and the exact locations of our installations on our instagram page @islandbeenbee
